THE SCOOP ON SERVICE
Pool audits, pool profits
By Bob MIller, Palm City Pool & Spa, Inc. /
Making a profit in the swimming pool service industry can be challenging
at the present time. The overall state of the economy can bring plenty of low-
bidding. Pool services are not overseen strictly enough by government to
keep a majority of unlicensed companies from taking business away from true
pool professionals. Things are slowly getting better, but I believe we have a
long way to go.
We work continuously to find new ways to keep our business lucrative and
profitable. One way, amongst others, is doing in-depth audits of all of your
servicing accounts. Most, if not all, residential or commercial pools need some
kind of repair. These services can range from replacing an o-ring on a pump
lid to doing a complete renovation.
With all the latest technology at your fingertips such as a smart phone, all
pool technicians can register detailed information at every stop on the pool
route. They can record pictures of pool equipment including pool heaters, pool
plumbing configurations, pool automation viability, and pool surfaces including
coping and decking. This information can be stored in customers’ e-file. Over
time personalized information and brochures can be sent out to customers
with explanations on what services and repairs can be done. Most customers
don’t realize when important repairs need to be done or know about products
and new technology that would make their pool more enjoyable. Keeping an
up-to-date audit on all of your accounts can make a big difference in making
your business successful.
